TCRA’s facilities cover a large area in the heart of the Tri-Cities. Here are some Airport statistics of which you may not be aware.
Land and Facilities
TCRA’s property covers an area of 1,225 acres with 89 acres in easements. It includes:
- The main Airport building of approximately 118,835 sq. ft. (The terminal is 97,335-square-feet and the concourse is 21,500-square-feet.)
- Seven aircraft gates in the concourse.
- A 23,000-square-feet cargo and warehouse building including storage and handling, office and covered canopy space.
- Eight conventional hangars ranging in size from 8,000-square-feet to 28,000-square-feet of storage space. (Total of 13,250-square-feet storage, plus 7,500-square-feet of office space.)
- Expansive fixed-base operator and charter operation facilities.
- Primary runway: 5/23 – 8,000 feet by 150 feet Runway 5 has a category II Instrument Landing System (ILS) and 23 has a category I ILS.
- Secondary runway: 9/27 – 4,447 feet by 150 feet
- Upgraded Instrument Landing System, Mark 20 ILS, GPS compatible, remote maintenance and monitoring.
- Elevation: 1,519 feet MSL 36 degrees 28 minutes 34 seconds Latitude; 82 degrees 24 minutes 22 seconds Longitude
- Snow Removal Equipment storage and maintenance facility (19,000-square-feet).
- Air Carrier Apron: 100,200-square-yards.
- 185 short-term and 437 long-term parking spaces, 115-space employee parking lot, 123-space rental car ready lot and 23 metered parking spaces.
- 15,000-gallon AVGAS 100LL and 40,000-gallon Jet A fuel facilities.
- TCRA has a total asphalt surface of 158,000-square-yards.
Terminal Building
The three-story terminal building and connecting concourse consist of the following:
- On the main floor a traveler will find airline ticket counters, rental car counters, Tailwind Gift Shop, ATMs, game room, Airport Service Counter, Tailwind Restaurant and Lounge and baggage claim.
- In the concourse, seven gates are surrounded by a spacious passenger waiting area. Passengers can grab a bite to eat or something to drink at Tailwind Express cafe before boarding the plane. A business center and televisions are also located in the concourse.
- Public Safety offices, private business offices and rental space, vending machines, large capacity storage and boiler/chiller facilities comprise the base floor.
- The third floor also has Airport Commission administrative offices, a mezzanine and observation deck.
Air Cargo Logistics Center
- A 13,000-square-feet cargo facility
- 174,000-square-feet of cargo apron.
- 4,000-linear-feet of parallel taxiway and new cargo apron connector.
- Industrial access road to handle tractor trailer traffic.
- Customs & Border Protection Port No. 2082 (full customs services).
- Foreign-Trade Zone designation.
- Direct municipal water, sewer, gas and electric utilities.
- A 35-acre development area capable of accommodating approximately 220,000-square-feet of direct aircraft access facilities and/or warehousing and distribution operations.
Runways & Taxiways
- Runway 5/23 is a grooved asphalt surface and 9/27 is an asphalt surface, both in good condition.
- Taxiways are asphalt pavement. “A” is a 75-foot parallel taxiway. Taxiways “R” and “C” are partial parallel taxiways. “B,” “T,” “U,” “W” and “Y” are connectors.
Airfield Rescue and Fire Fighting
TCRA Public Safety has three vehicles with a total of 3,585 gallons of water, 465 gallons of foam, 1,500 pounds of dry chemical or Halon. The Public Safety department has also upgraded the fire station, purchased fire suits, added a firefighting truck and increased the availability of defibrillation units in the terminal.
Hangars, Fuel, Aircraft Parking Apron
- Tri-City Aviation (423/325-6261, 423/325-6275) has a 24,050-square-feet hangar, 12,000-square-feet climate-controlled hangar, one 15,000-gallon AVGAS 100LL and two 40,000-gallon Jet A tanks. There are 31 general aviation tie-downs and 12 plane port positions.
- Corporate hangar tenants include Eastman Chemical Co., The United Co., AFG and King Pharmaceuticals.
